This product is made using certified organic Astragalus root that has been carefully grown on our organic farm in the Pacific Northwest. This premium glycerite is made by extraction in alcohol, followed by removal of the alcohol. The potent concentrate is then re-suspended in vegetable glycerin. This two-step process captures the active constituents that are naturally present in this herb.

The use of Astragalus dates back to the 5th century where it was described as a "superior" herb due to its tonic action. According to this text this supreme group of herbs were described as ‘rulers ... they control the maintenance of life and correspond to heaven'. Of this group of tonic herbs, Astragalus has earned the highest regard and is known as the "yellow leader". Currently, Astragalus is listed in the traditional medicine guides (pharmocopoeia) of China and Japan.
Western herbalists began using Astragalus in the 1800s as a tonic. It became more popular in the 1980's an important aid in strengthening the natural defense system of the body. It is presently being studied by researchers at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in collaboration with the Federal Government's Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) research program. The clinical study will focus on botanicals that affect the immune system of patients with cancer and infectious disease. Note: This does not prove the effectiveness of Astragalus in the treatment of cancer, and we do not advocate the use of herbs for self-treatment for any serious disease without the advice of a qualified health care professional
